A brief history
Ken Starr's journey into the world of winemaking began in 1952, as he learned the craft from his father. His passion for wine was further fuelled during his time in the USAF in the early 1960s when he visited numerous wineries in Europe, particularly admiring the German style of winemaking. From 1966 to 1977, he honed his skills by crafting his own wines.
In 1994, he took a significant step by purchasing land in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, where he planted 12 vines. Over the years, the vineyard expanded to include 3000 vines of various grape varieties such as Concord, Niagara, Traminette, Foch, and Leon Millot. The establishment of a winery in 1998 marked the beginning of Starr's commercial winemaking venture. The success and quality of his wines led to the official launch of Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery in 2005, situated on 13 acres in Clearfield County, where we conyinue to produce a diverse range of handcrafted wines to create perfect moments for wine enthusiasts.
