Growing Conditions

Karamoor Estate’s vineyard spans 23 acres of densely planted, immaculately maintained vinifera vines, designed and architected by renowned viticulturist Lucie Morton, recognized in Vineyard & Winery Management’s “Top 20 Most Admired People in the North American Wine Industry.” Since 2003, Lucie has been instrumental in selecting the varieties of vinifera grapes to plant and determining their optimal locations within the vineyard.

A strong advocate for high-density planting, Lucie’s designs typically feature 1,600 to 2,000 vines per acre, compared to the industry standard of 600 to 800. This approach promotes even and full ripening by encouraging the vines to produce less fruit, allowing them to concentrate on fully ripening a smaller crop.

A dry and mild summer led to ideal conditions to ripen the grapes to full maturity for full fruit expression of this often-unwarranted maligned varietal. A small production of our best barrels were culled to produce this soft, fruit-driven, full-bodied wine.

All our vines are hand-pruned and hand-harvested, ensuring the highest standards in every bottle.
