A brief history
Established in 1995 by former union Ironworker Kevin Shaffer, Creekside Cellars Winery in Mercer, Pennsylvania, is a testament to the transformative power of passion and perseverance. Kevin's journey into winemaking began during a shutdown project at the now-closed WCI Steel Corporation, where a coworker introduced him to the world of winemaking through a catalog from the Grape in Granary. Despite a disappointing first taste of homemade wine, Kevin's curiosity was ignited, leading him to experiment with dandelion wine in his basement. With determination and guidance from a local winemaking supply store, Kevin honed his craft, ultimately achieving success with his blueberry wine, which won accolades at both local and international competitions.
After nearly 15 years of balancing ironworking with winemaking, Kevin made the bold decision to pursue his passion full-time, with the unwavering support of his family. Today, Creekside Cellars Winery stands as a testament to Kevin's dedication and the power of following one's dreams. With each sip of his award-winning wines, patrons are invited to toast to the journey from humble beginnings to realizing monumental dreams. Cheers to the resilience of the human spirit and the pursuit of one's true calling!
